Current Work
Updates on current pieces and series I am working on, as well as processes and meaning behind them.
DRINK CAN SERIES
This series aims to capture the fragile beauty of coral reefs while also illustrating the devastating effects of human impact. The juxtaposition of the bleached coral against the vibrant, colourful crochet growths represented the resilience and potential for regeneration within these ecosystems. As I continued to create, I aimed to raise awareness about the urgent need for environmental conservation and the preservation of our natural world.
I have been going back through my old work in the past few months, making this website, and also trying to go back and feel inspired by what got me to be where I am today. In this process I really fell back in love with the pieces I was creating through my A-Level art Personal Investigation on anthropogenic pollution of the ocean and how represented it is in modern art. I think that I very heavily rushed the end of my project, trying to meet deadlines and revise for exams, for this reason I never spent very much time on my drink can ideas as they were not quite dramatic enough to be a final piece and so were pushed to the side after only a couple of weeks of working on them.
My cans were one of my favourite pieces from my project, and I now hope to continue that creative line of work.

Drink Can PT.1

THE RE-LEARNING PIECE This piece was very much a little practice, being the first time I’ve touched a glue gun in over 2 years. I relearned which wool sizes and textures work best, how to keep the can standing upright, and most importantly layout. I will not lie, this could definitely have been much better. But, it was a learning step, and a much needed one. I so enjoyed getting back into crocheting and simply playing around, there is something so different making 3D pieces compared to paintings, I feel so much more freedom in moulding something and having it form out of my own two hands. From this pieces, I have learnt: Make the crochet pieces smaller. Make more crochet pieces. Use bolder colours Have hight difference for contrast. Hot glue guns are HOT (it’s in the name).
