About Me and My Artistic Journey

1

Early Inspirations
My passion for art began in childhood, inspired by nature and the vibrant world around me. I was always drawn to bring creative, growing up surrounded by like minded people was definitely a bonus, being privileged enough to meet artists and travel to museums. It really helped open up my eyes.

2

Learning and Development
I honed my skills throughout my years at high school, mostly in my last two years of my A-Levels, where I learned the fundamentals of various artistic disciplines. It was here that I found a passion in connecting the ocean and people through the medium of art, by creating one of the best things I believe I have made so far “How has the pollution of the ocean been represented in art? Specifically sculpture”. I was given the freedom to explore and interconnect my two favourite things, and produce pieces of work that have great purpose and meaning.

3

Finding My Artistic Voice
Over time, I discovered my own unique style, blending elements of different art forms to communicate my ideas. Each different medium brings fourth different ideas, and I am still learning how to use them to the best of my ability.
Sculpture
Materials and Techniques
I worked with a variety of materials, including chicken wire, wool, plastic bottles, and rope using techniques such as moulding, crocheting, and assemblage to bring my sculptures to life. I started off by studying a selection of artists that I found inspiring, Vanessa Barrago, Stephanie Kilgast, and Courtney Mattison. From them and further research I started producing little pieces and gradually developed them further and further until I came up with giant bleached coral sculptures covered in colourful growths.
Themes and Inspiration
My sculptures explored themes of nature, human destruction, and most importantly the passage of time, finding inspiration from some incredibly talented artists who cover similar sensitive topics as myself.
Using a combination of these materials, I strived to capture the fragile beauty of coral reefs while also illustrating the devastating effects of human impact. The juxtaposition of the bleached coral against the vibrant, colorful growths represented the resilience and potential for regeneration within these ecosystems. As I continued to create, I aimed to raise awareness about the urgent need for environmental conservation and the preservation of our natural world.
Painting

1

Vibrant Colour Palette
My paintings have a rich and expressive use of colour, creating a sense of flow and movement within the canvas. I want to make them pop and be pleasing to look at, drawing in the viewer.

2

Brushstrokes
I utilise both small and big brushstrokes to capture the essence of my subject matter, adding a dynamic quality to the work. Being detailed in the places where it matters, letting the eye wander in and find more and more things to see.

3

Unique Style
I combine different techniques, never sticking to one medium, I like most started off using acrylic paint to learn composition and colour theory, I have since moved into watercolours and a few times stepped into oil paints.
Crocheting
Delicate Craftsmanship
Crocheting allows me to create pieces of art using textiles that are tailored to add extra flare to the pieces of work I create. It took me quite some time to pick up the skill, as it is not only a time consuming practice, but also quite intricate and delicate. I found that at the beginning my crocheting was always way too tight and impossible to work with, but with time and patience it got easier, until I was completely able to work by myself without any guidance and incision and execute ideas of my own.
Functional Art
My crocheted creations are not only to help improve my pieces of art, such as my sculptures, but also practical, serving as blankets, tops, and jumpers. I found with spending more time crocheting I gained the confidence to starting designing and making my own clothes which was amazing!
Experimentation with Colour and Texture
I enjoy experimenting with different yarns, colours, and textures, creating unique and captivating pieces. Finding some wool and coming up with an idea just from the colour, texture and weight of it
Inspiration and Process
1
Inspiration
My inspiration comes from everything, the nature I see surrounding me, the headlines of devastation on the news, the people and their stories that I am so grateful to interact with. Everything accumulates and filters through my brain, it is all what has made me who I am, and in tern is what flows out of me into pieces of art that I love to share back with the world.
2
Concept Development
I translate my ideas into sketches and plans, sometimes I just keep them stored away in my head for a rainy day. I never quite know what I am going to do next at the moment, but I do love a good Pinterest board or notes page to just write out all of my thoughts and feelings. The medium I chose is mostly related to what I have on hand and varies all the time.
3
Creation
I usually just go for it, I’ll doodle or mould something out and from there it just grows. I love the freedom of it, there are no real rules or boundaries, only what feels right. Like many before me creative block is a struggle I often feel, going through periods of time where nothing comes, but it is so rewarding to put in the effort and let it all out when the time is right.
Upcoming Ideas
New Painting Series
I'm currently working on a new series in watercolours, its still very much in the works, but I want to start painting marine animals, not quite 100% realistic, always got to leave room for creative licence, but very free flowing and colourful.
I’ve started it off with some purple compass jellyfish, that I absolutely adore and find so much joy in painting, and just can’t stop painting them.
I’m not too sure what direction this series will head in but I am eager to watch it grow and evolve.
Sculpture Series
Some time in the future I would love to get back into creating more sculptures continuing on the theme of my A-level art series on pollution and showcasing its effects in the ocean, however at the moment I don’t quite have the time, space, or materials at my finger tips to get started on it, but hopefully soon I can revive the 3D art.
Building Online Presence
I'm excited to start being more present in sharing my artwork online, in many places, Instagram, Tik Tok, and Pinterest, showcasing final pieces as well as some behind the scenes footage of my creative process. I hope that I can help communicate the importance of art and how useful it can be as a tool to learn and educate. Incorporating my current uni studying of a Bachelor of Marine Science at James Cook University, Australia
And maybe one day my art will help inspire other creatives on their own journeys.
